Description

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a very somber place, a memorial dedicated to the documentation, study, and interpretation of Holocaust history. The museum serves as America's memorial to the millions of people murdered during the Holocaust.

Visitors that come to the museum will be unable to forget the sometimes heart-felt, sometimes devastating remembrances found in the paintings, photographs, and other memories and relics found at the museum. The museum's mission is "to advance and disseminate knowledge about this unprecedented tragedy; to preserve the memory of those who suffered; and to encourage its visitors to reflect upon the moral and spiritual questions raised by the events of the Holocaust as well as their own responsibilities as citizens of a democracy."

Chartered by a unanimous Act of Congress in 1980, the museum is located adjacent to the National Mall. The museum has many different offerings from exhibitions, research libraries, art, artifacts, and annual Holocaust commemorations known as Days of Remembrance.
