Description

The National Gallery of Art is one of the most important museums in the country, one of the premier places to view historical pieces of art within the United States. The museum houses one of the finest collections in the world, with a permanent collection as well as touring exhibits in painting, sculpture, decorative arts, and works on paper from the Middle Ages to the present. In total, there are more than 110,000 art pieces on display at any given time.

The grounds of the museum are immaculate and impressive, made of strong granite and marble formed into cathedral ceilings. There are also gardens with fountains and sculptures to sit in and enjoy through out the premises. The ground floor has galleries of prints, drawings, paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts while the main floor has European paintings and sculpture, American art, and temporary exhibitions. The East building has more temporary exhibits and more contemporary American art from the later half of the 20th century.
