The National Museum of African Art is an extensive collection of traditional and contemporary art that displays a great range of African art. The remarkable situation presented to the visitor here is that of the naturalistic and tribal juxtaposed and fused with the urban and modern.
The collection at the museum ranges from ceramics, textiles, furniture, tools, masks, figures, and musical instruments. Painting, printmaking, sculpture and other media are also well represented at the museum through the work of many living artists whose works are innovatively engaged in the transformation of tradition, culture, and modern thought.
