While governmental maneuverings may be the mechanism driving Washington D.C. forward, the less-political visitor will find here expansive parks, a plethora of cultural sights and as assortment of landmark structures.
The National Air and Space Museum is one of the most entertaining and exciting stops in Washington. Real airplanes and spacecraft hang from every inch of the ceiling while lunar modules and rockets are on display on the floor. Take a cramped walk through a model space shuttle and see what it is like to be an astronaut or just marvel at the great yet relatively short history humans have had with the possibilities of flight.
Kids especially will love this museum with its life-size and interactive displays teaching about physics, flight, and outer space. Stopping at the gift shop is a real treat as well since astronaut food is for sale, vacuum sealed and ready to eat!
